ABLEDATA is a federally funded project whose primary mission is to provide information on assistive technology and rehabilitation equipment available from domestic and international sources to consumers, organizations, professionals, and caregivers within the United States. The ABLEDATA database contains information on more than 29,000 assistive technology products (over 19,000 of which are currently available), from white canes to voice output programs. The database contains detailed descriptions of each product including price and company information. The database also contains information on noncommercial prototypes, customized and one-of-a-kind products, and do-it-yourself designs. Abledata also provides links to resource centers for assistive technology as well as links to sites with other disability-related information. http://www.abledata.com/
RESNA is an interdisciplinary association of people with a common interest in technology and disability. Their purpose is to improve the potential of people with disabilities to achieve their goals through the use of technology. They serve that purpose by promoting research, development, education, advocacy, and the provision of technology and by supporting the people engaged in these activities. http://www.resna.org/
The Center for Assistive Technology, housed within the School of Public Health and Health Professions at the University at Buffalo, conducts research, education and service to increase knowledge about assistive devices for persons with disabilities. The Center works in four related areas:
- Research - Research, Development and Commercialization of advanced technologies and assistive devices;
- Education - Education Programs for professionals, students, and consumers;
- Services - Client Assessment & Training Services in computer access for education & employment;
- Dissemination - Dissemination of information about assistive technology devices and services.
